Nydalasjön

Situated 5 kilometers east of downtown UmeÃ¥, Nydalasjön is an area of undisturbed nature.

You could go running, berry picking, lake jumping, ice fishing, barbecue,

Or you could bring your guitar, gather around the fire with some friends and wait for the northern lights to show.

The natural habitat around Nydalasjön nourishes a rather abundant ecosystem. Its vegetation consists of an interesting combination of evergreen conifer forests and wetlands. On the north bank of the lake, there is a sand beach, Nydalabadet, and the Umelagun water park which opens during summer.

There is a main path, Olle Fiskares väg, which leads to the center of the lake. The entrance on the left bank starts with the white "Kinabron"(China bridge), on which you can see a lake house painted in traditinoal "falu red" on your left. The barbecue area is less than a five minute walk away, located on huge rocks facing the north side of the lake. Signs of city life are absent here, except for the faint swooshes of cars on the E4 highway.

Olle Fiskares väg runs along the left bank of the lake, and it is a delightful place to go for a run or walk. As it gets closer to the water near the center of the lake, the woody plants are prevailed by mosses. The ground becomes more and more spungy and saturated with water, eventually losing the solidity to walk on. Nydalasjön is frozen for three to four months in a year. The ice on the surface usually gets thick enough to walk on by the end of December.

Nydalasjön neighbors residential areas Nydalahöjd, Mariehem and Tomtebo. Here is a map listing out all the spots for different activities around Nydalasjön.

"I don't recall a moment I was unhappy at the lake."
